Heyo,
If you aren't doing so already, try viewing this wiki from a computer and clicking around a bit: the new cursor should be interesting... :P
For anyone else who can see it: any particular feedback? (e.g. size, recommendations for a different cursor type on text)
Or would people prefer to be waving something else around instead of the Laser Cannon? Thought it was the best looking one for a browser myself...
Hey guys,
I've been designing a couple of different ways of displaying multi-chapter fanfics over in Experimental Interfaces. If you're an avid reader and/or have any spare time, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could take a look at some of the interfaces and leave feedback on whether they're easy to use, and especially on ways in which they're difficult to use or could be improved upon.
Longer term goal is to turn some of the better ones into templates that writers can easily integrate with their own fanfics. If any of the designs are particularly striking, feel free to use them on other wikis (this wiki's sorta running under a CC license anyway).
Note 1: Please post here if you're unable to post any comments under blogs -- there's a chance that some of the javascript I've installed is actually jamming the commenting functions (I can't be sure right now because I've been subjecting my computer to some pretty heavy work in the last few minutes).
Hello everyone in the fan fiction wiki! I wanted to know your opinion on what makes a good villain in a story. Is it the evilness, the charisma, a tragic story? Please leave your answers and hopefully have a good conversation to go on.
Hey guys,
I saw some discussion about whether this wiki should get a wordmark of its own, and I'm trialling something I've just uploaded.
I haven't used the same style Huds used for the original wiki because the wordmark has to be 250x65 pixels. The SW minigun logo eats up a lot of room if I want it looking good, and making it any smaller reduces it to a bit of a blur for my liking. The lettering I used here was modelled after the "Alien Invasion" letters in the minigun logo.
Truth be told, my own opinion about the current one is a bit mixed: it's looking a bit better than the first few attempts I've tried, but my eyes have gone a bit numb over the last half an hour (my first attempts seemed too dark, then the next few seemed too bright, pixelated, or otherwise plain hard to look at).
Let me know what you think please: I can revert it back to plain text if people prefer that one.
Hey guys,
I've copied the "Writers' Block" page from the original SW wiki over here. For those who haven't seen it before, it's a page designed to list all fanfics which the writers want recognised. Please read the following carefully before using it.
- Unlike the original wiki, the Writers' Block here lists fanfics categorised as "BlockListing". I've changed the coding because several pages on this wiki have already been labelled as "Fanfic", so I used a more distinct name to prevent confusion as to what the "BlockListing" category is for.
- The category name is case sensitive -- you must type a capital "B" and a capital "L". If you do not type it as "BlockListing" exactly, you will create a new category (and your fanfic will not show up in the list).
- DO NOT ADD THE BlockListing CATEGORY TO MORE THAN ONE CHAPTER OR BLOG PER STORY. Doing so causes multiple chapters of the same story to appear on the listing page, which creates a lot of clutter.
Hey all, I hope you've all been well -- or at least, that's what I would've liked to say if not for the reason I needed to make this post.
I've recently noticed a few users coming here for the sole purpose of appealing bans incurred on the original SW wiki. While I understand that users will want to appeal bans that they feel are unfair, I will need to ask that you consider doing so via Community Central rather than here:
This wiki was set up specifically to focus on fan fiction written by SW authors, and allowing this place to become an appeal ground for bans from the other wiki would significantly detract from the focus on authors' works. This wiki may indeed have strong ties to the other one, particularly having been set up and maintained by members from the original wiki -- but I ask that you do not bring disputes and issues over here, and respect that this place is actually for the writers and readers.
Please also be aware that I am not here to discuss disputes or events on the original SW wiki -- as much as I sympathise with the frustration of conflicts, I am acting as someone who wishes to maintain this place's purpose as distinctly for fan fiction readers and writers, and that involves setting appropriate boundaries where necessary.
Hey guys,
I'm not sure which of the admins are too active, which is why I'm posting this on the Forum board instead of to any one person's pages.
May I suggest changing the wiki's current background image or otherwise darkening it? I'm having a little bit of trouble reading articles on this wiki because of the brightness distracting my eyes (in particular, it's the bright edge of the planet). It's not a matter of the central column (where all the text is) not being dark enough -- it's the fact that there's something very bright on the edges to either side of the column, and I'm finding the overall contrast balance on the page somewhat disorientating.
